Please help. Property sold in tax sale
Submitted by mnobles on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 10:18pm.
I own property with my brother in SC. I didnt pay the taxes and the property was sold for the taxes. The time to redeem is 12 months and that has passed. I was served by the people who bought the property for a "Quite Title". I do not live at the property that was sold-no one does.I called the tax office and the stated they sent me and my brother notices to a former address of mine and they were returned unclaimed. My brother doesnt live with me nor has he ever. They also stated they sent a notice to actual address of the property (which was incorrect) and that was returned-no box. They said they posted notice on property. I never saw the notice when visiting. I put in a forwarding address from my old address, but it was not stated when the notices went back to the tax office, just stated unclaimed. The deed has been issued to the people who bought the property in the tax sale. Previously before this mishap they has sent notice to our parents home and did not this time. Is there any thing i can do? Please help.

You'll need to contact an attorney, but it is VERY doubtful there is anything you can do at this late stage. You should ask the tax collectors office if there are any funds you are entitled to as a result of the sale.
